Construction, explained

# What is an *ABA wall panel?*

A–B–A describes a sandwich: an A layer, a different B layer and another A layer. It describes the architecture of a substrate, rather than a universal recipe.

## Inside the wood-free sandwich panel

In the documented 6 mm reference, the A skins are denser mineral-filled PVC. The B layer is a foamed mineral-filled PVC core. The resulting substrate has a lighter centre enclosed by denser faces.

The decorative film and surface treatment are separate layers above that substrate. ABA does not mean that the complete finished product has only three layers.

This reference construction contains no MDF or wood-fibre core. It is wood-free, but it is not PVC-free and should not be described as entirely inorganic.

The documented 6 mm reference illustrates the ABA substrate. Its decorative film and surface treatment sit above the sandwich.

A

### Denser face skin

The outer part of the PVC/mineral substrate, below the decorative finish.

B

### Foamed centre

A lower-density PVC/mineral centre within the sandwich architecture.

A

### Denser back skin

The second outer skin. Its supplied backing and bonding requirements must be checked.

## What the ABA name tells you

Thickness, density, surface, reinforcement and edge machining can change between ranges.

Two products sold as ABA can differ in chemistry, total thickness, layer balance, mechanical behaviour and connection. A name cannot establish flexural strength, reaction to fire or shower-system performance.

Some suppliers use lightweight SPC, foamed SPC, hybrid wall panel or sandwich wall panel for related products. Use those names to find candidates, then compare the actual cross-section and current technical file.

The published reference is a 950 × 2400 × 6 mm panel in the July 2026 technical sheet. Its nominal density is 0.85 g/cm³. Those values belong to that reference product. The wider reinforced-hybrid programme offers other dimensions, with materials and performance confirmed for the selected version.

## Questions about ABA

The useful distinctions behind the initials.

### Does ABA mean WPC?

No single material follows from the initials ABA. Conventional WPC means wood-plastic composite, while some wall-panel documents use WPC to mean Water Proof Core. The construction presented here is mineral-filled PVC without a wood-fibre core.

### Is every ABA panel the same as solid SPC?

No. A dense solid board and a foamed sandwich can share PVC/mineral chemistry while having different cross-sections and densities. Compare the supplied panel rather than treating the trade names as specifications.

### Does the sandwich make it waterproof?

A material’s water behaviour and a complete wall installation are different questions. The reference has specific water-absorption and joint-test results; shower suitability still depends on the selected system, sealed details and installation instructions.
